Country Hazards

As one drives to Duns Tew, just at the Over Worton turn, this is what greets one:



The unwary take these signs at face value and turn back. But those who know, drive right on. What could the problem be? Construction? Re-surfacing the road? As one drives along, one comes to what it is that has caused this road to be closed. It doesn't look like anything worth closing a road for, but maybe closer examination will reveal what is going on.



Sure enough, within the enclosure it is obvious that there is something wrong with the road surface:



But surely the Council could just have come and mended the road! After all....

Then one looks about, and the reason for it all is clear. For there is a badger set:



The badgers have clearly begun to undermine the road, though it does not look as if they have gone too far yet.

But one never knows. Perhaps those who routinely pass the signs back at the Over Worton turn will one day suddenly find their cars sinking, and instead of proceeding on to Duns Tew they will be navigating the tunnels of a badger set!

Spring Flowers, But It's Still Winter

It's early for the daffodils, not to mention the hellebore.
